Overview: The correct usage
of the language is important to the success of Toastmasters.. The
Grammarian introduces a new word to the Club and counts its usage during
the meeting. The Grammarian also keeps track of the incorrect use
of the language, as well as situations where the language is used in an
excellent fashion e.g. very descriptive words that create a visual
picture.
Prior to the meeting:
- Determine the theme of the
meeting (from Toastmaster)
- Prepare the
word of the day, its definition, its use e.g. a sentence showing how
the word is used.
- Print this info in letters large
enough to be seen from the back of the room
During the meeting:
-
Explain the Grammarian's roles
-
Introduce the word of the day, its
definitions, and examples of using the word.
- Display the
word of the day in a prominent place. Some Clubs display the
word at the lectern and at the other end of the room.
-
Write down any awkward use or misuse of
language and correct them
- Write down any
examples of the excellent use of the language
-
Note who and how many times the word of
the day is used
-
Provide a verbal report when called by
the General Evaluator
